Red Cliff (2008/09)
FUCK. I had a longish post explaining my feelings towards John Woo’s oeuvre, how happy I was to find that if his overseas distributors couldn’t be bothered releasing his two-part version to cinemas they at least managed to get it onto digital disc, how it finds him in recent Zhang Yimou territory but is still very much a heroic bloodshed film (just with swords and fire rather than guns), and WordPress decided to be a cunt and swallow it whole. I’m not rewriting it; let me just say it really is as good as claimed and really is Woo’s best film in ages.
