The Saphead (1920)

I’m a big Buster Keaton fan, yet somehow I always held off watching this one; I bought it about, what, five years ago but I always was under the impression that it wasn’t really much good (I got a cheap knock-off of the Kino edition, probably for One Week more than the main feature) and so always held off watching it. As such I was a bit surprised to find it was actually OK… but it’s not exactly a Buster Keaton film, is it? He’s in it, but it’s not a “Keaton” film… which is no doubt a function of the film having been sourced from a play and Keaton having to conform to that; not until the amazing stock exchange scene near the end does he really get to strut his stuff. So still a disappointment despite not being the dog I’d always been under the impression that it was.
