Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)

I was stunned the other day, to say the least, to see an entry on IMDB for a THIRD Kill Bill film, potentially to be released in 2014. Quite how little Quentin plans to continue the series given that Bill got killed (and so, alas, did David Carradine) is something I was perplexed by, but seeing the first film again on TV tonight reminded me “ah, the little kid could grow up and avenge her mum who gets killed by Uma at the start of proceedings”… but it also reminded me why I never liked the film in the first place. Pastiche of Asian action cinema at its emptiest, bereft of Tarantino’s hitherto usual wit and interesting characters, some pretty ordinary acting as well; his previous aura of cool seemed to vanish into vacuity here. So didn’t like it then, still don’t particularly like it now…
